Wayland Van Nest Announces Campaign for Brazos County District Clerk

BRYAN, TX – Lifelong Brazos County resident Wayland Van Nest announced his campaign for Brazos County District Clerk, running as a Republican with 24 years of dedicated service to the county.

Van Nest has spent his entire career serving the people of Brazos County, beginning at the Juvenile Justice Center where he worked as a detention officer, instructor, and prevention specialist, before moving into his current role as a court bailiff. He has earned a reputation for integrity, professionalism, and compassion within the courthouse and across the community.

“As someone who has worked in nearly every corner of our local justice system, I know how important it is that the District Clerk’s Office runs efficiently and transparently,” Van Nest said. “My goal is simple: to make sure this office serves every citizen with accountability, fairness, and respect.”

Throughout his career, Van Nest has completed extensive training in court security, mental health response, and victim advocacy. He has also served on the Brazos County Safety Committee and the Specialty Court Team operating committee, where he worked alongside law enforcement and judicial leaders to strengthen local justice initiatives.

A graduate of Bryan High School and holder of a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, Van Nest graduated Cum Laude and has continued to dedicate his life to public service. He and his wife, Monica, have been married for 21 years and are raising their three sons, Clayton, Logan, and Lane, in Brazos County. Together, they are active in youth sports and community service.

“As a lifelong resident, husband, and father, I care deeply about this community,” Van Nest said. “I am ready to put my experience to work for the people of Brazos County and ensure the District Clerk’s Office reflects the values we all share: honesty, efficiency, and service.”
